AFTER THE APOCALYPSE Emma Griffiths
Lake Placid Film Festival
Trapped in a bleak post modern landscape in the aftermath of the third world war, a woman and four men are forced to learn to communicate again after they are muted by destructive gases released during the conflict. Emerging from his basement bunker Yasuaki meets fisherman Zorikh, former clown Moises, painter Jacqueline, and tunnel dweller Oscar. Together they struggle to make sense of their selfish desires and their collective need to ensure the survival of the human race.
Using a pared down narrative style with minimal dialogue, After the Apocalypse conveys the raw experience of being human. The film's experimental soundtrack magnifies sounds of life and transports us into the desolate world of the survivors.
